Every September, our team attends the annual CEDIA Expo, which is the common hub where more than 20,000 home technology pros and over 500 exhibitors travel to see the latest and greatest in, as CEDIA puts it, “making smart homes genius!” As we gear up for the Trade Show, it’s an opportunity for us to learn, meet different manufacturers, and to make sure that we bring the right team of vendors and products on-board as we return to our day-to-day design and product specification work. Many products are simply new releases to the existing lineup that we already specify, however, a handful of brands that we team-up with are because of their high-level of design or capabilities to customize solutions for each project.
Many times when building a home, you might find yourself in a situation where it’s difficult to achieve some of the details and technology while keeping to a tasteful design aesthetic. Perhaps you want a TV in a space where you don’t have a wall. Or, you might have minimal wall space if your home is designed with lots of windows, but you have too many “wants” to fit on the available space. Our philosophy is that you should rarely have to pass on making your home just as you dreamt it to be. That is why we partner with the best brands in the business that have full-custom capabilities; two of which are Seura and Leon.
For these homeowners, who were building their “forever home” and embraced our technology design, decisions were not based on a matter of “if we can figure it out.” It was always the approach of “we will figure out a solution.” She wanted a place to sit in their master bathroom to do her makeup where she had great light and could also watch TV. The location in the room this needed to be installed was in the middle of a double-sided counter, with no great place to rest the mirror. We worked with Seura to suspend a custom built lighted TV mirror from the ceiling with stainless supports to match the sink fixtures. With our design guidance, Seura was able to fabricate the mirror with direct LED lighting at just the right height for our homeowner while seated, and a built-in tv all while being suspended from the ceiling directly above her seating niche in the master bathroom. It checked every box on her list of “wants” for her makeup counter.
In this modern home which had lots of windows, leaving very little wall space, there was one spot in particular that was in direct line of sight from the office nook off of the kitchen, making it an ideal location for a TV. However, due to the minimal wall space, the homeowners valued the presence of art in that very space over a TV. Really, they wanted both, but thought they had to make a choice and sacrifice on one. We knew our partners at Leon could create the perfect happy-medium for our homeowners. We supplied Leon with drawings and dimensions, and they were able to create a custom art lift to disguise a TV. So with one product, we were able to satisfy the customer’s needs giving them a perfect view when seated in the office nook and a lift to hold a colorful piece of art when the display was not in use.
